Jim is an expert in the areas of individual, corporate, payroll, partnership and small business taxation. He is also experienced in the field of mergers and acquisitions for medium and small private corporations and partnerships.
Jim has an energetic and interactive style of teaching, and receives excellent evaluations from UM Tax participants. Jim returns as the lead instructor for the UMtax for 2007.

Byron will return to the instruction team
in 2007. He is an expert in creditor-debtor proceedings, probate, insurance
litigation and a broad range of taxation issues. Byron has special expertise
in tax research. With over 15 years of experience in the fields of law
and taxation, Byron has taught successfully with professional firms
and the University in tax preparation, and has a participative teaching
style.

Lisa Martin
Stakeholder Liaison, Great Lakes
Small Business/Self – Employed Division, Internal Revenue Service>
Lisa is a Specialist with the Stakeholder
Liaison Field Operations of the Small Business / Self Employed Division
of Internal Revenue Service. As a stakeholder liaison specialist her
primary focus is on local engagement of payroll and practitioner community
and stakeholder organizations to provide information about IRS policies,
practices and procedures to ensure compliance with the tax laws.
Lisa joined the IRS in 1988 as a Research
/ Contact representative in the Automated Collection Branch. She has
held several positions with the service including in 1998 securing a
position as Revenue Officer in Detroit, where she was responsible for
collecting delinquent accounts and securing delinquent tax returns.
She provided instruction, and analyzed issues presented by taxpayers,
practitioners and IRS employees, promoting voluntary compliance in accordance
with the tax laws and regulations. Lisa possesses a vast amount of experience
and knowledge in the area of collections.
Lisa Martin is a graduate of the University
of Detroit. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration
with major emphasis in the area of finance.
Kristy Washington
Senior Stakeholder Liaison Specialist
Small Business/Self-Employed Division, Internal Revenue Service
Kristy Washington works with the tax professional
community interfacing between them and the Internal Revenue Service.
Washington also has an on-going relationship with the small business
community educating them on products and services the IRS has available.
Washington joined the IRS in 1987 as
a Taxpayer Service Representative in Oakland, California. In 1989 she
was promoted to a Taxpayer Service Specialist and relocated to Detroit,
MI. In 1991, she joined the staff in the Office of Public Affairs, as
a Public Affairs Specialist, and then later was promoted to the position
of Electronic Filing Coordinator.
Washington holds a bachelor’s
degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University.
