FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Why does Athletics need to provide evening supervisors?

It is required by the Summer Safety Oversight Group (SSOG) to have a coach-to-camper ratio of 1-60 during evening activities. This is for the benefit of the campers as well as their safety. As a whole, both Athletics and Housing are responsible for many athletes each week. Parents of these campers trust your staff and ours to provide the safest environment possible for their children. Athletics and Housing are both equally responsible for the daily safety of the campers. We ask for your support and help in promoting this secure and safe environment.

Who do I contact if a camper is missing?

First take attendance. If a camper is missing, contact the Camp Office at the front desk. The Camp Office has an alphabetical list of campers (the “Alpha List”) that includes each camper’s name, room number, room phone number, and sport.

The Camp Office will first call the camper’s room. If there is no answer, the next step is to visit the camper’s room. If the camper is found, the staff will supervise the camper at the front desk until someone from the Sports Camp Staff can pick him or her up. If the camper is not found in the room, the Camp Staff will continue to assist you in whatever way is needed.

What do commuters do during meals?

If a commuting camper purchased a commuter meal card, he or she can eat meals in the residence hall by showing the meal card to get into the building. If not, the commuter will not be allowed in the building for security reasons.

What role do the Athletic Trainers play in camps?

University Housing provides meals and a room to sleep in for your overnight Athletic Trainer. Trainers should check in to the residence hall Camp Desk on the first day of camp. Trainers are required to be in the residence hall overnight and have copies of all camper Medical Information forms with them in case of a medical emergency. A detailed description of all Trainer responsibilities is on the Trainer page.

If a camper is injured during the day, Camp Staff will contact the Trainer right away.
